Cathedral Verger Jon Scarffe is leaving us in September to begin training for Ordination to the priesthood.
Cathedral Vergers play a vital role in the smooth running of the Cathedral’s busy programme, setting up for services and liaising with clergy, visitors and other Cathedral departments on the practical arrangements for events. Alongside this work, Jon is also a member of the Cathedral Forum and was until recently treasurer for the Cathedral Stewards.
Prior to joining the Cathedral Jon trained as a licensed lay Reader in the Church of Ireland’s Diocese of Dublin, leading worship and preaching. These are skills he has also used in Peterborough, most recently as a volunteer chaplain in HMP Peterborough where he worked alongside a multi-faith Chaplaincy team, helping to facilitate a course on grief.
Jon, who has been at the Cathedral since 2013, will train full time at Ridley Hall in Cambridge.
