About the Company of St. Peter
Members of the Company give support to the development of the Cathedral's ministry, music and fabric. They can also enjoy a programme of social events such as dinners, specially arranged trips and privileged access to Cathedral events and services, as well as regular news updates about development projects.
Members of the Company automatically receive complimentary membership of the Friends of Peterborough Cathedral.
Enquiries are welcome from anyone who would like to join. You can become a member of the Company at various levels, starting at £250 annually, which can be paid in monthly instalments and gift aided.
Following a hugely successful restoration campaign in the late 1990s, The Company of St. Peter has proved a crucial support in assisting the funding of various essential projects. These include restoration of the nave ceiling, replacement of the tesserae pavement in the choir and crossing and a music endowment.
Annual contributions to a membership scheme, such as this, enable the Cathedral to manage its fundraising more effectively, which can then support a range of preservation and development projects.
The Company of St. Peter is always open to new members, not only to provide financial security for this magnificent building and its long heritage, but also to provide a wide interest in all its activities.
What the Members say
June and Bob Vajda
The Company of St Peter social events are really enjoyable and take us to places we would not otherwise have the opportunity to visit. Highlights over the years have included the gardens at Highgrove, The National Centre for Early Music in York, Lichfield Cathedral, the National Arboretum in Staffordshire and the National Railway Museum in York.
I live some distance from the Cathedral so I enjoy receiving details of what is happening there. I cannot support all the activities and services that I'd like to, but there are opportunities to join the trips which we can travel to direct. I would encourage anyone to consider joining and to play a role in conserving what is not only part of the heritage of this country, but also a focal point of worship in the diocese.
The members of The Company of St. Peter come from a variety of backgrounds. They are a very diverse and interesting group of Cathedral enthusiasts and supporters to get to know.
When our daughter joined the choir we were keen to support the Cathedral in a way that involved the whole family. I could see what an enormous privilege it was for Louise to be a Cathedral chorister. Although choir families give of their time to the Cathedral, I feel it is equally important to give financial support to the organisation so that others will benefit in the future.
To anyone planning to join The Company of St. Peter I would say go for it! You will enjoy the events, meeting other members and knowing that you are supporting a worthy cause.
